Education online has emerged with the introduction of the World Wide Web to the populace. - Upside: One of the advantages of education online is that you get to learn the same things that students on campus learn without you having to venture out of the comfort and security of your home. You can study and work at the same time without having to sacrifice one or the other. You can also take care of a family while trying to finish your college education online. Since you don’t need to go to a campus to take your courses, you are also free to study your modules ahead of the others or tackle these subjects according to the pace set by your online school.
- Downside: One of the downsides to the online education system is the fact that some people do not get to finish the course due to lack of discipline. You will need to be extra disciplined to keep up with your class when you get a higher education online and to do the activities involved with the course while you are busy with the other aspects of your life. While this is still somewhat similar to traditional education where you need to do the necessary things in class to pass, an education online is somewhat dependent on your capability to learn some of the things you are supposed to learn on your own. This means that there will be times when you will need to study some of the lessons from your online courses on your own without your professor there at that very instance to answer some questions that might pop up while you are reading up on the subjects you are supposed to learn. Your professors will be available to answer your questions once you get back online for another session with them so it might be wise to write down these questions for you to ask when that happens.
Traditional Education
- Upside: The upside to traditional education as opposed to education online is that you get to go to a campus where you get to meet a lot of students you can interact with and share your learning experiences with. Another advantage when it comes to traditional education when compared to education online is that the daily classes you have with your teachers gives you the chance to lobby any questions you might have about these subjects. You also get the advantage of the pacing that these traditional colleges have when it comes to giving you lessons and topics to read up on which you might not get with an education online.
- Downside: The downside to traditional education as compared with education online is probably the same as its upside. You have to go to a campus to finish your education. Another downside to traditional colleges in comparison to education online is the fact that if you have a family to take care of, a job to keep that will help put food on the table, and other concerns that prevent you from going to a traditional college, you might not be able to finish your higher education at all. Education online can give you the chance to do all these while going to college.
Getting Jobs with Online and Traditional College Diplomas
When you talk about the job market, some people are kind of concerned about how some companies will view a person who has an online degree after getting their education online as opposed to one who has a diploma from a traditional university or college. Well, the good news is, depending on how well the graduate did and what qualifications he or she can present, a lot of companies actually see these two as equal.
People who have online degree diplomas from their education online are given the same amount of respect that those who graduated from traditional colleges get from a lot of institutions these days.
